Director Biography - Danilo Stanimirovićt
For a few months, I lived in Zurich with my uncle’s family – a family that was falling apart. The apartment I remembered as a warm home now seemed like a prison cell whose walls reverberated with intolerance and tension. I came to realise that such micro-worlds are at the core of the extreme problems European society faces. Violence, alienation and inter-ethnic hatred are part of the broader context of this film – problems, in my opinion, whose causes lie as much in blind tradition, religion and mythology as they do in a neoliberal ideological system that values people according to their contribution to the economy. CATS continues the trend of young authors who tell stories about abandonment, unresolved conflicts, alienation, intolerance and violence; its specificity lies in the fact that, in addition to addressing the abandonment of Serbia, it initiates an international dialogue on the universal problems of European communities at large.
